The Honolulu Marathon is unique among major marathons - there's no time limit, everyone is welcome, and the tropical December setting offers an escape from winter. Running around Diamond Head with the Pacific Ocean as your backdrop creates memories that last a lifetime.
The Course
Starting in downtown Honolulu before sunrise, the course loops through Waikiki, around Diamond Head crater, and into the Hawaii Kai neighborhood before returning along the coast. The terrain is gently rolling with tropical scenery throughout.
Paradise Running
The course showcases Hawaii:
- Ala Moana (Start) - Pre-dawn in downtown
- Waikiki (miles 2-5) - Famous beach strip
- Diamond Head (miles 6-10) - Volcanic crater loop
- Hawaii Kai (miles 14-18) - Eastern turnaround
- Kahala (miles 20-23) - Upscale coastal neighborhood
- Kapiolani Park (Finish) - Near Waikiki Beach
No Time Limit
Honolulu's most distinctive feature is its lack of a cutoff time. Whether you finish in 3 hours or 10 hours, you'll cross the same finish line with the same medal. This philosophy makes it one of the world's most welcoming marathons.
Why Honolulu?
Honolulu offers what no other major marathon can: a tropical December race where everyone belongs. The combination of no time pressure, stunning scenery, and the opportunity to escape winter makes it a bucket-list experience.
